About THE CABIN
Set at the foot of the Hangklip Nature Reserve
Sugarbird Cabin is set at the foot of the Hangklip Nature Reserve which is part of the Kogelberg Biosphere world heritage site, boasting the richest floral kingdom in the world. With views of the mountain from every room in the cabin, this is a nature lovers sanctuary.
The space
The house has been curated to enhance the guests experience by incorporating colours and textures inspired by the natural beauty that surrounds the cabin. The dramatic view of the mountains across the valley and the proximity to the reserve make the space a creative inspiration for artists with a piano, guitar, easel and books-to-inspire available to guests.
Perfect for 8 adults with a generous balcony with soft seating and an outdoor dining area, there is also a spacious lounge from which to enjoy the views on a windy day. It is also suitable for families with younger kids equipped with toys, a particularly expansive brio train set, and games and puzzles for the older ones. Not only can you walk out of the door and go for a hike, the village centre is a 5minute walk away and a 20minute walk from the beach.
Sharing a fence with the nature reserve means the garden has regular visits from the local wildlife including tortoises, mongoose, deer, porcupine and a vast array of birds, in particular the sugarbird. Then of course there are the ever-cheeky baboons that are cause for much entertainment when watched from the safety of the windows and closed gates.

Information
Location & Nearby Attractions
The cabin is set at the foot of the Hangklip Nature Reserve which is part of the
Kogelberg Biosphere UNESCO world heritage site recognised for its exceptional
fynbos biodiversity. Thus, we are surrounded by beauty. We have a plethora of
wildlife visiting us including tortoises, porcupine, deer, mongoose and birds of
every kind. Then of course, we have the cheeky baboons who are always looking
for a snack. Exercise caution, wildlife is wild, but we hope you enjoy watching them
as they can be very entertaining when viewed from the safety of a closed window
or gate.
Groceries and Shops
Food and Supplies – There’s a superette and a minimart where you can find pretty much all of the basics. Lemon and Lime deli has a diverse array of international ingredients as well as freshly baked goods. The Minimart has the best freshly baked sourdough, but get there early as they sell out fast.
Restaurants
There are quite a few in the village but here are a couple of
recommendations.
Lemon and Lime Deli – They serve well priced, delicious deli food.
Menucha Coffee and Crafts – Great coffee, well priced, good quality food. They have a grassy outdoor space that is suitable for kids to enjoy. My 5 year old highly rates their babychino as it comes served with mini marshmallows. Art is exhibited in the upstairs dining area.
Day Trips
What makes our region so special is that we are part of the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve, spanning 100,000 hectares of landscapes (an area larger than Singapore) including ocean, land and towns. Home to the Cape Floral Kingdom, one of six kingdoms world wide, it is often called the heart of the Cape Floral Kingdom. The region has more plant species per area unit than anywhere else on earth, including the Amazon rainforest!
Drawing nature lovers from all over the world, the reserve has a significant number of plant and marine species that are endemic to the region. The area is recognised for its exceptional efforts to balance socioeconomic needs with nature conservation. With an interdisciplinary approach to environmental management and community development it is a leader in navigating harmonious cohabitation between man and nature,
Hiking
For all the trails in the area you can download the All Trails App which shows you every trail in the region, how far and how hard the hike is.
Beaches
Any of the surrounding villages have lovely beaches where you can swim and watch the sunset.

We loved our stay at sugar bird so much that we’ve already gone back!
The house is SO beautifully decorated. Modern yet homely and so peaceful. Double portion not only is the inside of the house wonderful, and big enough for large families or groups of friends, the views are stunning. Being right next to the nature reserve was amazing. Looking at the mountains around you, walking out the front gate and heading straight into the reserve for gentle hike, stunning sunsets, coffee shops and minimart only a short walk away and a short drive/walk to the beach…. What more could you want?! This is one we’ll keep returning to!!
We had a most wonderful weekend at Sugarbird Cabin. The cabin is a tranquil oasis, perfect for slowing down, recharging and getting in touch with nature. It is gorgeously furnished and decorated, with a spacious lounge, dining and deck area and four cosy bedrooms. We especially loved the astounding panoramic views onto the nature reserve, the thoughtful details throughout the cabin (equally aesthetic and practical), the useful welcome guide with information about Pringle Bay and activities, the kitted-out kitchen (complete with coffee grinder and spices!), the wonderful library including games for young and old, the nearby nature walk behind the cabin, and the feeling that you are hugged by nature from all sides of the cabin. This makes the cabin a wonderful retreat on a windy day, on which we spotted sugarbirds, sunbirds, a wild tortoise and the delightful local troop of baboons with their young. The hosts are attentive and super helpful, we can’t wait to come back again and again.
Outstanding! I spend a couple of days at the beautiful Sugarbird Cabin on a writing retreat, hoping for a time of rest and creativity, surrounded by the beauty of nature, and that is exactly what I got.
The cabin is very clean and well equipped. Tasteful interior design and a stunning view from the spacious front deck / balcony over the Pringle Bay mountains or the adjacent nature reserve from the back balcony cause immediate relaxation and unlock creativity.
The cabin is located on the outskirts of Pringle Bay, on the foot of a mountain and bordering a nature reserve, which means beauty and tranquility, but at the same time shops, restaurants and coffee shops in the tiny village centre are in walking distance. Also the beautiful beach is not too far away. Communication with the hosts was very pleasant.
All in all an amazing stay, which was both creatively productive and extremely relaxing. Definitely worth every cent. I’m looking forward to come back at some time!
Gorgeous home. Beautifully decorated and exquisite finishes including luxury kitchen appliances and linen. Loved the special touches including professional coffee machine and biscuits left to make a great first impression. Stunning views throughout the home and the furniture throughout is to die for!
We stayed in Sugarbird cabin with our two young boys aged one month and two years for a total of four nights and had a fantastic time.
The house has everything you need, and especially for young kids (cot, plastic plates, forks, and spoons, lots of toys and even books!) . It is beautifully decorated and also very spacious and full of light. From the large balcony you have a spectacular view of the mountain range. And the great thing is that the balcony is also well protected from the south east wind, which means that we could enjoy afternoons and evening barbecues on the balcony even on the day when the wind came up.
You also love the tranquil setting of Pringle Bay, and all the things you can do around even with little children, like the beach, viewing penguins or going to the botanical Gardens.
The host was also easily reachable and explained everything brilliantly which meant getting in and out was easy.
Thank you for hosting us in this beautiful spot in Pringle Bay. We had a wonderful time here I would come back any day!
Great experience. Brilliant location, well designed interior with great beach stuff for kids and games to keep them busy if it rains. The guidebook was also super helpful for good recommendations of things to do and places to go with kids. The master bedroom was a highlight as it has such beautiful views and is really spacious. The hosts were quick with responses and kept us immediately informed of any water issues or electricity outages in the village that may affect us.
